About Dr. Morris
“As the son of a preacher, I first came to appreciate the oral proclamation of God’s Word while listening to my father. The front altar of the Bible Baptist Church of Concord, California, will always be my special place of deliverance from darkness to the ‘kingdom of His dear Son.’ It was through my father’s preaching that I came to Christ at an early age.
“Although I seemed to struggle for many years in my Christian life, God would often bring me back to Himself through preaching. In time and in His grace, God brought me to Watertown, Wisconsin, and Maranatha. As a student from 1980-1984, my hunger for preaching grew through the college’s outstanding chapel ministry. Not long after graduation, Maranatha offered me a Graduate Assistant position in the Speech Department while I was finishing a master’s degree in Bible.”
“In 1987 our Vice President of Academic Affairs challenged me to further my formal training in speech, so I enrolled in a master’s program which emphasized training in rhetoric. Throughout this time I served on two church staffs and went from teaching part-time to full-time. Maranatha eventually asked me to begin helping as an ‘extra critic’ in the basic homiletics course, and I eventually become a homiletics professor. My Doctor of Ministry coursework continued to confirm my love for the sound exposition of God’s holy Word, and my pastoral ministry continues to confirm that love.
“My wife, Angela, and I have three children, Alysha, Judson, and Victoria. We are members of Calvary Baptist Church in Watertown. In my spare time, I enjoy fishing, woodworking, soccer, and being with my family.”
Dr. Morris serves as Assistant Pastor for Youth and Family Ministries at Calvary Baptist Church.
