Missions

Reaching the world

Maranatha is intensifying its efforts to train the next generation of Christian leaders to reach out to an increasingly global society in creative, God-honoring ways. Maranatha’s missions program includes a Bible core curriculum that emphasizes core doctrines and biblical literacy and also teaches students to deal with competing philosophies, current trends, and cross-cultural issues. In response to challenges from urbanization, technology, pluralism, and restricted access countries, the missions program includes a strong linguistics curriculum and an emphasis on understanding worldviews.

“Now is not the time to be passive about world missions." - Brian Trainer, Dean, College of Bible and Church Ministries

Short-term missions

Assembled during an eight-hour span from the evening of Nov. 1 to the morning of Nov. 2, 2013, a missions team from Maranatha spent two days helping Bethel Baptist Fellowship in Brooklyn after the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy. The men performed cleanup work in the flooded church building and, with the help of their fellow students, provided clothing, food, and other essential items for distribution to the Sheepshead Bay community. Our faculty knows missions

"To be involved in Christian ministry is an utmost privilege, a solemn responsibility, a divine stewardship, and an extreme joy. Our desire is to train individuals who understand and appreciate the opportunity of being vocationally involved in handling the Word of God," Brian Trainer.

Global Encounters

Each summer, more than 100 Maranatha students see God change their lives as they travel overseas to places like South America, Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Global Encounters is Maranatha’s strategy to mobilize faculty and students to partner with local churches worldwide and reach into the needy regions of the globe with the gospel. “We want to do that with passion and ultimately for the glory of God,” says Brian Trainer, who directs several summer mission teams. Since the program began in 2006, more than 100 students have traveled internationally every year. Click here for more information on Global Encounters trips.
