Dr. Jeffrey CrumMaranatha has announced that Dr. Jeffrey Crum will serve as Director of Distance Learning, effective Jan. 3.

Dr. Crum has served as Director of Communications since February of 2009. His new role comes at a time of substantial growth for Maranatha Online. Enrollment among high school students alone jumped 75 percent between the 2009-10 and 2010-11 academic years.

“Maranatha is fast becoming a leader in online education, and we must not relinquish that position,” College President Dr. Marty Marriott said. “It is strategically critical to our future.”

Dr. Crum said he is looking forward to his new challenge.

“God has given me a diverse background in academics and collegiate advancement that uniquely fits the needs of this position,” Crum said. “I’m excited to be part of Maranatha’s worldwide branch campus. Our vision is to make Maranatha degrees, complete with their Bible core, Baptist distinctives, and respected academic quality, accessible to students unable to reside at our Watertown campus.”

Maranatha Online’s course offerings have expanded rapidly since 2009. Degree programs include a Master’s Degree in Bible, a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies, and a Bible Certificate. More than 100 classes are now offered each academic year.

Dr. Crum accepted Christ at age 6 and was baptized at 11. He graduated with degrees from Liberty University (BS in Music and Business), Marshall University (MA in Music), and Auburn University (PhD in Music Education).

He was a member of the music faculty at Pensacola Christian College from 1993-2003. While Professor and Chair of Music at Piedmont Baptist College and Graduate School from 2003-2006, Dr. Crum brought renewed energy to that college’s music programs as he retooled the curriculum and relocated the department to modern facilities. He founded the Music Academy at Piedmont, which began with 20 students and surged to 300 within two years. Due to this growth, he was promoted to Director of Advancement/Special Assistant to the President.
