ROTC Commissioning 2013

Maranatha’s Army and Air Force ROTC programs made history on May 3rd, 2013 when they commissioned seven Cadets in what was the first joint commissioning ceremony that Maranatha has conducted since the inception of the ROTC programs in 2006.

The commissioning ceremony was the culminating event of four years of military and aerospace studies resulting in these students being awarded the rank of second lieutenant in the Army and Air Force. The commissionees were:

Army

Andrew Domsic, Jared Domsic, Derek Funkhouser, Christian Groom, Levi Kettula

Air Force

Samuel Doyel, Kyle Nupson

COL Tom Groom had the honor of swearing in the new lieutenants, while many of the first salutes came from Charlie Company’s own SFC Charles Benintende. The first salute ceremony is also a time honored tradition where the newly commissioned officers are given their first salute from a senior ranking non-commissioned officer as a sign of respect and a welcome into the profession of arms. In return for the salute, the non-commissioned officer is given a silver dollar from the lieutenant.

Other participants during the ceremony were LTC Allen Henderson (Army Professor of Military Science), LTC Todd Berge (Air Force ROTC Professor of Aerospace Studies), MSG Scott Slater (Army ROTC Senior Military Instructor), and MAJ Derrek Schultheiss (Assistant Professor of Military Science at Maranatha College.
