Lumm Named Chief Information Officer

Dr. Werner LummDr. Werner Lumm has been named Chief Information Officer at Maranatha, effective immediately.

Dr. Lumm has been serving as Facilities Manager since coming to the College in 2009 and has been Administrator of Maranatha Virtual Academy since 2010. He will retain those duties in this new position as well as overseeing the Information Technology office and Maranatha Online.

“I’m very interested in the different facets of this new position,” Dr. Lumm said.

“I have a significant interest in distance education because I see its potential benefits for the students and the institution. As Maranatha Online grows, we’ll want it to have a closer relationship with the technical side. I hope to be able to help develop that relationship. We have also just gone through a huge transition in terms of student information and learning management systems, and I want us to be able to tap their potential to an even greater extent.”

Lumm’s appointment comes at a critical time for two rapidly expanding facets of the College. Maranatha implemented a unified campus-wide database this fall which includes a full-featured online learning management system. Maranatha Online has experienced significant growth since it became operational in January of 2009.

Dr. Lumm brings more than 30 years of diverse administrative experience to his new position.

He served as Academic Dean and Executive Vice President of Pillsbury Baptist Bible College from 2004 until December of 2009, overseeing both academic and operational initiatives and personnel. Dr. Lumm was Administrative Director of the American Association of Christian Schools from 2001-2003, a time period during which the AACS reached the largest number of member schools in its history (1,202).

From 1988-2001, Dr. Lumm served on the faculty and staff of Bob Jones University. He worked as a campus construction superintendent while pursuing his doctor’s degree, then became Chair of the Division of Business, Trades, and Technology in the School of Applied Sciences in 1998.

Lumm, Werner“I plan to emphasize effective interdepartmental coordination at Maranatha and get every employee involved in planning direction and setting goals,” Dr. Lumm said. “We’ll work together at incorporating the needs of the institution into our operations as well as communicating our needs to the institution.”

Dr. Lumm earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and agriculture and a master’s degree in secondary school administration and supervision from Northwest Missouri State University. He also earned an educational specialist degree in educational administration and supervision from the University of Toledo and a doctor’s degree from Bob Jones University in educational administration.

Dr. Lumm and wife Mary Ann have four children and seven grandchildren.
