The Maranatha women’s basketball team has earned the No. 1 seed in the National Christian College Athletic Association Division II Championships, March 7-9 at Ohio Christian University in Circleville, OH.
The Crusaders (21-6) will open the tournament with a quarterfinal game March 7 at 2 p.m. Eastern Time against North Central, MN (8-17).
Four seniors, all four-year starters and 1,000-point career scorers, and junior center Laci Peterson have helped lead Maranatha to an unbeaten season against NCCAA foes and a Midwest Region tournament title. The Crusaders come into the tournament on a roll, having won 10 of their last 11.
Manhattan Christian, KS, is seeded second. Kentucky Christian, which has won the last five national titles, is third. The Knights defeated Maranatha in the championship game in 2012 and 2011 and in the semifinals in 2010 and 2008.
Maranatha last won a national championship in 1999.
