WATERTOWN, WI – Maranatha scored a combined 35 runs in a seven-inning doubleheader blowout of Lincoln Christian, and improved to 3-7, defeating the Red Lions by scores of 22-1, and 13-3 on Wednesday afternoon.

The Crusaders finished game one with 15 base hits, and had a monster second inning, with 12 runs off nine hits, and poured in another seven runs in the bottom of the fourth, before dispatching the Red Lions in the fifth inning, on the 10-run rule.

Six different Maranatha players finished with at least two hits apiece, and senior catcher Galen Balinski (Mountainhome, PA), led the way with a 3-4 day from the plate, and three RBI’s.

Freshman pitcher Micah Burdett (Newnan, GA) piled up eight strikeouts, and pitched five complete innings, allowing just two hits and one earned run.

The home team continued the onslaught in game two, but finished with 17 hits, and fell behind 1-0 in the top of the first. Burdett singled though in the bottom of the inning, and drove in Tim Rogers (Willmar, MN), and Balinski, to seize a 2-1 advantage.

Maranatha only added to that total, and limited Lincoln to just two runs off four hits, scoring three runs in the second on RBI’s by Cody Borland (Oakley, CA), and Caleb Rost (Greenville, S.C.), and another five in the fourth, on five more hits.

The team once again had six different players with at least two hits, and three players with three hits. Balinski, Burdett, and outfielder Jed Hedlund (Santa Maria, CA) each went 3-4, and freshman catcher Jacob Vossen (Port Clinton, OH) tacked on two hits, and three RBI’s.

Freshman pitcher Adam Courtney (Guthrie Center, IA) picked up his second win of the season, improving to 2-0, and struck out four batters while allowing five hits, and three earned runs in five complete innings.

The Crusaders face Wisconsin Lutheran on Saturday, April 5, at 12:00 p.m., in a nine-inning doubleheader.
