RIVER FOREST, Ill. – In their second NAC doubleheader of the season, Maranatha was blanked by the Concordia University Cougars, 23-1 and 19-1 on Saturday afternoon.

The high powered Cougars (14-3, 4-2 NAC) had big innings in the first and sixth innings, scoring 10 and seven runs respectively on 23 hits in the game.

Maranatha scored in the fourth inning when senior pitcher Garett Ordway (Pensacola, Fla.) singled, then scored on a hit up the middle by freshman shortstop Tim Rogers (Willmar, Minn.).

Senior first baseman Tim Shelp (Independence, Mo.) was thrown out to end the inning after trying to reach home on Rogers’ single.

Ordway pitched six innings for the loss, dropping to 0-2 on the season while the team had six hits in the game.

Freshman left fielder Jacob Bauer (Milwaukee, Wis.) went 2-2 while Rogers finished 1-3 with an RBI.

Maranatha jumped on the scoreboard early in game two as sophomore Galen Balinski (Mountainhome, Pa.) and freshman outfielder Cody Borland (Oakley, Ca.) each singled before catcher Andy Timblin (Muscoda, Wis.) drove in Balinski on a groundout to shortstop.

The team had another chance to score in the bottom of the seventh when senior Stephen Bishop (Hampton, Va.), who singled, advanced as far as third.

Sophomore pitcher Caleb Rost (Greenville, S.C.) pitched six innings, striking out one to drop to 0-2.

The baseball team hosts Lincoln Christian on Wednesday, April 10 at 1:00 p.m. in a makeup game earlier postponed due to field conditions.
