CEDARVILLE, OHIO – The men’s and women’s cross country teams put a strong exclamation point to their season, finishing third and fourth respectively in Division II, at the NCCAA Nationals, hosted by Cedarville University, in Cedarville, Ohio.
The women’s team finished just behind Toccoa Falls (3rd Place), with 112 points, and Moody Bible Institute finished first with 29 points.
Maranatha received a top-notch performance from sophomore runner Margo Watson (Atlanta, GA), in the 5,000 meter race, who blazed across the finish line with a time of 20:45.99, good for sixth place in Division II while sophomore Kimberly Richerson (Elmwood, IL) was the second Maranatha runner to cross, at a time of 23:22.01, finishing 24th in Division II.
In their first Nationals experience of their careers, Caitlin Ebert (Mequon, WI), who finished in 29th place, and Natalie Deman (Frederic, MI), who finished 37th, had times of 24:09.92 and 26:09.19.
Rosa Lewis and Anna Witan were the other women’s runners, finishing 44th and 46th.
The men’s team had perhaps their best performance of the year with 93 points, good for third in Division II out of nine teams, and were led by two runners in top-10; Caleb Wagner (Aliquippa, PA), and Michael Kluver (Sauk Centre, MN).
Wagner was Maranatha’s top runner, finishing with an impressive 29:45.74 in the 8,000 meter race, for seventh place while Kluver was two spots behind Wagner, in ninth place, with a time of 29:58.14.
Senior Elijah Walters (Buck Creek, IN) was the third Crusader to cross the finish line in 13th place, in a time of 30:19.27 and Robert Truax (Lexington, S.C.) finished in 18th place with a mark of 31:23.10
The men’s team had three runners in their first Nationals race; Kris Black, Benjamin Peden (Hill AFB, UT) and Nathan Turcotte (Watertown, WI). Black finished with a time of 31:57.18 while Peden recorded a 32:20.43 and Turcotte rounded out the group with a 33:57.21.
