Top runners William O’Malley (Rockford, Ill.) and Lauren Stephens both ran well at Nationals. Stephens reserved her top performance for last, running a time of 21:05.72.
She also came in second at the Nationals and helped lead her team to fifth overall.
O’Malley’s season record was 27:36.36 at the Warrior Invitational hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran in Greenfield, Wis. His first place finish in the Nationals helped guide Maranatha to a second place team finish.
The season would not have been complete though without the contribution of support runners behind O’Malley and Stephens.
Freshman Michael Kluver (Sauk Centre, Minn.) received the Coach’s Award and was consistently the second best runner on the team, setting his personal record time of 30:10.63 at the National Tournament.
Sophomore runner Jeremy McPhillips (Georgetown, Ill.) did not join the team until the end of the season but was a pleasant surprise. He also ran a personal record at the National Tournament of 30:21.27 and was right behind Mike Kluver in the standings.
On the women’s side, sophomore runner Cici Liu (Watertown, Wis.) was a new addition and proved to be a competent runner. She posted a time of 23:22.12 and had the second best time on the team.
Junior Cari Cook (Jackson, Mich.) received the Coach’s Award, always displaying a positive attitude during the season. She awarded her coach by setting her new personal record at 25:02.11 at the National Tournament.
O’Malley was named to the All-Northern Athletics Conference Team and the NCCAA All-American Team. It was the third year in a row he has made the NAC team.
Stephens was a NAC All-Conference Honorable Mention and an NCCAA All-American.
Sophomore runner Andrew Domsic (Mattawan, Mich.) was named to the NAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
