WATERTOWN, Wis. – The Crusaders continued their surge, defeating Concordia-Chicago 3-0 on Friday evening and improving to 10-0, and 4-0 against conference opponents.
In set one, Concordia held a 10-5 lead in the first set before several Cougar errors evened the score at 17 all. Maranatha and Concordia remained tied through 21, and senior outside hitter Torey DeLozier (Watertown, Wis.) had two kills to end the set.
In set two, Maranatha jumped out to an early 13-10 lead and never looked back, closing out the set 25-19 on a kill by junior middle blocker Laci Peterson (Chillicothe, Ill.).
In the final set, the Cougars stuck close with the Crusaders in a match that saw the score tied 11 times.
Maranatha managed to pull away for a 17-14 lead and finished the game on a kill by senior hitter Sadie Joutras (Crest Hill, Ill.).
DeLozier finished with 19 kills, 10 digs while Peterson notched nine kills and a block assist. Sophomore setter Emily Thompson (Watertown, Wis.) had 17 assists while senior libero Hallie Sheley (Watertown, Wis.) racked up 13 digs.
The Crusaders stay in River Forest, Ill. to face Dominican University at 12:00 p.m.
