WATERTOWN, Wis. – In a game against the #1 Concordia University Chicago Cougars, Maranatha generated 461 yards of offense in a 62-26 loss on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars opened up with a touchdown on the opening possession, and added another score at the end of the quarter for a 14-0 lead.
Trailing 42-0 in the second quarter, freshman running back Kiel Larson (Owatonna, Minn.) had several quality runs, and quarterback Brandon McCormick (Edwards, Ill.) tossed a 31 yard touchdown to freshman wide receiver Tanner Carrillo (Hartford, Wis.) to put Maranatha on the board.
On their second scoring drive, McCormick rushed from one yard out, and on their next possession, Larson had a 34-yard scamper to cut the deficit to 42-19.
Concordia added three more scores before freshman backup quarterback Josh Davidson (Watertown, Wis.) connected with Carrillo on a 53-yard touchdown.
Carrillo finished with 112 yards receiving and two touchdowns, while Larson racked up 160 yards on a 6.5 average with a touchdown.
On defense, sophomore linebacker Ethan Kennon (Raleigh, N.C.) recorded 13 tackles, while linebacker Jordan Dersch (Pratville, Ala.) notched 11.
The game against Concordia Chicago concludes the 2012 season for the Crusaders.
