MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Maranatha Crusaders improved to 13-3, and 6-3 in the NAC, after a week-long break, sweeping MSOE 25-20, 25-17, 24-16 on Tuesday evening.
MSOE stuck with Maranatha in the first set, often trailing by one or two points, but the Crusaders found breathing room in a 19-15 lead. A kill by hitter Leah Hendricks (De Pere, Wis.) cut the Raiders’ deficit to 22-20, but it was junior middle blocker Laci Peterson (Chillicothe, Ill.) who delivered the game-ending kill.
Maranatha never relinquished control after jumping out to an early 12-6 lead in set two, while senior outside hitter Torey DeLozier (Watertown, Wis.) notched seven kills, including the game-winner, en-route to a 25-17 victory.
Set three followed suit with a 12-5 Maranatha lead, and concluded with another Peterson kill as the Crusaders cruised to a 25-16 win.
DeLozier finished with a game-high 21 kills to go along with 12 digs, and four assists. Peterson finished the night with an efficient 12 kills at a 38% clip.
Senior libero Hallie Sheley (Rockford, Ill.) finished with 21 digs, while sophomore setter Emily Thompson (Watertown, Wis.) recorded 17 assists.
Maranatha hosts Wisconsin Lutheran on Friday, October 19 at 7:00 p.m. The Warriors are currently ranked right behind the Crusaders at #5, and a win could push them ahead of Maranatha into the #4 seed.
