Grand Rapids, Mich. – The Crusaders found themselves in a familiar position, defeating the Lincoln Christian Red Lions, 3-2 on Saturday afternoon, to return to the National Tournament in Kissimmee, Fla. on November 7-10.
Maranatha built a 2-0 lead before Lincoln rallied to tie the set, and even held a 6-0 advantage in the fifth set. Maranatha clawed its way back to an 8-8 tie before claiming a 12-11 lead.
The teams failed to settle the score at the 15-point mark, and Maranatha finally secured a thrilling 19-17 win.
In a match against Kuyper College on Friday, Maranatha posted scores of 25-19, 25-13, and 25-7 in a sweep, as senior outside hitter Torey DeLozier (Watertown, Wis.) finished with 18 kills, and 15 digs, while junior middle blocker Laci Peterson (Chillicothe, Ill.) notched 14 kills.
Sophomore setter Emily Thompson (Watertown, Wis.) finished with 22 assists and senior libero Hallie Sheley (Watertown, Wis.) recorded 11 digs.
