MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Wisconsin Lutheran jumped out to a 10-4 lead before a Laci Peterson (Chillicothe, Ill.) block ignited a 13-4 run and a 17-14 Maranatha lead. A late rally by the Warriors was not enough to overcome the Crusaders who won set one 25-23.
The Warriors ran away with a 20-6 lead, before sealing game two, 25-16.
Maranatha halted a 6-2 lead in the third set, tying the game 9-9 and gaining their first lead at 10-9. From there both teams traded leads until the Crusaders found breathing room in a 20-17 lead before pulling away with a 25-20 win.
The Warriors responded with their backs against the wall in game four with a convincing 25-12 victory. In a tie-breaking fifth set, the Crusaders showed poise jumping out to a 6-2 lead before watching the Warriors cut the deficit to 10-9.
The Warriors tied the game on a kill but the Crusaders regained the lead on an attack error. DeLozier made a statement by scoring the next two, giving the Crusaders a 13-10 lead. DeLozier vaulted the Crusaders into the Thursday semifinal match with a powerful kill and a 15-12 win.
Maranatha moves on to the second round of the NAC Tournament on Thursday, November 1 at 7:00 p.m. at Dominican.
