RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Crusaders had a lead in game one but lost 9-6 and followed up with a 13-0 loss to Dominican on Saturday afternoon.
The Crusader maintained an early lead into the fourth inning of game one thanks in large part to freshman pitcher Jana Dempsey (Bath, Mich.), who held the Stars to a 2-0 deficit into the fourth inning.
Dominican finally got on the scoreboard and raced past the Crusaders with five runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Maranatha tacked on two runs in the fifth and sixth to draw nearer, but it was not enough to overcome Dominican.
Junior catcher Sadie Joutras (Crest Hill, Ill.) continued her strong hitting, going 3-4 from the plate.
In game two, Maranatha was held to three hits, as sophomore Rachel Ryan (Nampa, Idaho) and freshman Jana Dempsey each went 1-2.
Ryan pitched four innings, allowing 11 hits and 13 earned runs while striking out four for the loss.
Maranatha moves on to face Edgewood on Tuesday, April 17 at 3:00 p.m. at home.
