WATERTOWN, Wis. — The Crusaders struggled through errors and never seemed themselves in a 3-1 loss to the Lakeland Muskies on Tuesday night.
The Muskies took the first set, holding the Crusaders to 17 points, but Maranatha rebounded quickly, answering with a 25-18 victory in the second set.
Maranatha’s only lead in set three was 2-1, as Lakeland survived a late Crusader push, winning 25-21 on a kill from Lakeland junior Anna Faust (Cross Plains, WI).
In set four, Maranatha rallied to tie the match at 21, and the teams embarked on a back and forth nail-biter that ended in a heartbreaking 30-28 loss. Maranatha had chances to seal the match and force a fifth set, but costly errors and the Muskies’ resilience sealed their fate.
Peterson finished with 17 kills at a 48% average, while DeLozier finished the night with 25 kills and seven digs. Sophomore setter Emily Thompson (Watertown, WI) led the team with 21 assists, and Senior libero Hallie Sheley (Watertown, Wis.) finished with 16 digs.
The Crusaders look to bounce back with two games on Friday October 5, 2012. Maranatha will face Aurora at 6:00 p.m. followed by a match against Grace Bible at 8:00 p.m.
