WATERTOWN, Wis. – The Crusaders endured foul trouble, and turnovers to pull out a 51-50 win in the final seconds over the MSOE Raiders on Monday evening.
Maranatha opened the game down 8-3, but pulled within one, trailing 27-26 at the half. The Crusaders found life in the opening minutes of the second quarter by grabbing a slim lead and holding MSOE at bay for most of the half despite 20 turnovers in the game.
MSOE also had 21 turnovers but neither team could generate a consistent rhythm as MSOE went to the line 19 times compared to Maranatha’s 13.
The Crusaders held a slim 51-49 lead despite the circumstances, but fouled MSOE with just six seconds left in the game. The first shot was missed luckily and Maranatha retained possession for the 51-50 win.
Senior guards Hallie Sheley (Rockford, Ill.) and Kristin Morrison (Jefferson, Wis.) carried the team on their backs with 17 and 13 points respectively. Sheley recorded six steals while Morrison grabbed six rebounds and two assists while finishing 5-7 from the field.
Maranatha improves to 9-3 overall and 6-3 in the NAC and continues play on Tuesday, January 22 at 5:30 p.m. against Lakeland College in Watertown.
