ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Maranatha Crusaders built up a 31-16 halftime lead, but struggled in the second-half, holding off a strong Rockford push to win, 47-45.
A first half that included a 44% shooting performance from the field and three-point range was not enough to keep the Regents at bay in the second half. The Crusaders reverted to 18% shooting in the second period.
The Regents kept the lead within single digits, but fell behind by as many 18 points on a jumper by freshman forward Stacie Ross (Wyoming, Mich.).
In the second half, Rockford hit a pair of free-throws and on the next possession, hit a layup to cut the lead down to 46-45 with 2:31 lef in the game.
The game came down to free-throws, as senior guard Autumn Peotter (Waupaca, Wis.) went to the line to boost the lead, but both shots were missed.
On the other end, the Regents were fouled with just five seconds left, giving them a chance to tie and send the game into overtime. The shot was missed and senior guard Kristin Morrison (Jefferson, Wis.) hit the last free-throw, while Rockford missed a last-second three-point attempt.
Junior center Laci Peterson (Chillicothe, Ill.) had 15 points, five rebounds and another 10-block performance.
Senior forward Torey DeLozier (Watertown, Wis.) had 11 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and three steals.
