MILWAUKEE, Wis. – A 61-47 loss to the Raiders yielded some positive results and improvement for the Crusaders in a NAC competition.
The first of those was only a 28-24 deficit heading into halftime. MSOE built an early 6-0 lead before turning into a 22-8 advantage with 8:26 left to play.
The Crusaders took over for the rest of the half with a 16-6 run on free-throw and three-point shooting by junior guards Matt Hunter (Pontiac, Ill.) and Matt McGivern (Milwaukee, Wis.).
Maranatha played a competitive second half by cutting the deficit to 31-28 and never allowed the deficit to exceed nine points until six minutes left in the game.
A crucial three-pointer by MSOE’s Victor Bande (Madrid, Spain) made the lead 54-44, sealing the win with 1:49 left to play.
MSOE’s defense stifled Maranatha, holding them to 28% shooting, but the Crusader’s defense did match MSOE with 32 total rebounds.
Junior forward Joel Borchardt (Watertown, Wis.) was a key contributor to that total by hauling in 10 rebounds. Hunter was the leading scorer with 16 points and contributing four rebounds and four steals.
Maranatha has a weeklong break before moving on to face Dominican at home on December 10 at 4:15 p.m.
