Crusaders March to Tournament Victory


Too strong against RockfordCHICAGO, IL. – The Crusaders swept through yet another series of opponents in their second tournament championship of the season at the Moody Bible Tournament in Chicago, IL.

Maranatha made quick work of Dayspring Bible College in their first match at 6:00 p.m. on Friday winning by scores of 25-14, 25-12, and 25-19. Junior hitter Torey DeLozier and sophomore hitter Lacie Peterson had 26 and 12 kills respectively while freshman setter Emily Thompson (Watertown, WI) assisted 24 kills.

Maranatha continued its march to the championship match with a 3-0 sweep of Grace Bible College at 8:00 p.m. by scores of 25-9, 25-13 and 25-21. DeLozier had 21 kills and a block assist while Peterson finished with eight kills and two solo blocks.

Sophomore hitter Lauren Schulz (Lake Mills, WI.) notched six kills and was active on defense with three block assists. Thompson also finished with 21 assists and the Crusaders moved on to the championship match to face Moody Bible College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

Moody found no answers though for the dominant Crusaders. DeLozier filled up the stat sheet with a season-high 41 kills, 21 digs and seven blocks (two solo). Peterson also punched in 23 kills and three blocks (two solo) and Emily Thompson also finished with a standout 40 assists and eight digs.

Torey DeLozier was named Tournament MVP while being selected to the All-Tournament Team. Laci Peterson also received All-Tournament Team honors.
