FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Maranatha Crusaders fell behind twice in a match against Marian University before rallying in the fifth set to win 15-9 on Tuesday evening.
Maranatha trailed for most of set one, but the Sabre attack and three straight aces had Maranatha down by 10, losing 25-14.
Senior hitter Torey DeLozier (Watertown, Wis.) carried the team to a 25-18 set two win, but Marian fought through a 23-23 tie in set three, closing out with a 25-23 win on two Maranatha errors after the teams tied three different times in the closing points.
Maranatha built a 15-10 lead on kills from sophomore hitter Pam Borchardt (Watertown, Wis.), Peterson and DeLozier, and the team never looked back, snagging the 25-19 win and a fifth-set showdown.
The team exchanged points in the early goings, but a steady diet of Peterson and DeLozier put Marian on their heels at 10-4, ultimately succumbing to Maranatha, 15-9.
DeLozier finished with 28 kills, 17 digs, three blocks (two solo), and Peterson had 22 kills, and three blocks (one solo).
Senior libero Hallie Sheley (Watertown, Wis.) had 15 digs, while sophomore setter Emily Thompson (Watertown, Wis.) added 17 assists and eight digs.
The team improved to 16-3 overall, and 9-3 in the NAC with the win, and is now on a four-game winning streak, all against NAC opponents.
The team will travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. on Friday, October 26th for the NCCAAII Midwest Regional Tournament at Kuyper College.
Maranatha receives a bye in the first round, and will face the winner of Kuyper vs. Northland at 4:30 p.m. EST.
