RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The women’s basketball team bounced back after a tough outing against Marian, defeating Concordia Chicago 55-40 on Saturday afternoon.
Maranatha exploded out of the gates with a 13-2 lead before the Cougars closed the gap to six. Maranatha boosted its lead to 30-16 to head into the half.
The Crusaders managed to hold a double-digit lead for most of the second half, but did not find success from the field, shooting 25% and 8% from three-point range.
Maranatha kept themselves perched atop the Cougars by outrebounding them 54-33, and holding them to 21.9% field goal shooting for the game.
Sophomore center Laci Peterson (Chillicothe, Ill.) was solid on defense with 11 rebounds, eight points and seven blocks.
Junior guard Autumn Peotter (Waupaca, Wis.) finished with 15 points, eight rebounds and four steals, while guard Kristin Morrison (Jefferson, Wis.) had 13 points and nine rebounds.
The Crusaders face NCCAA Midwest Region opponent, Northland International, on Tuesday, February 7 at 5:00 p.m. at home.
