WATERTOWN, WI – The women’s basketball team (11-14), had three players represent the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I), which selected their All-Independents Teams recently, as seniors Laci Peterson (Chillicothe, IL), Erin Steuerwald (Whitewater, WI), and Allison Schultz (Chillicothe, IL), were each recognized for their individual achievements, as well as guiding the team to an NCCAA DII Regional Tournament win, and the #7 seed in the National Tournament.
Peterson grabbed 1st Team honors, after averaging 14.4 points, 10.1 rebounds per game—both 4th best in the AD3I. She also ranked 2nd in the NCAA DIII, in blocked shots per game (4.8), and has ranked in the top-three throughout her college career at Maranatha. Peterson is also 21 points shy of 1,000 career points, and has a likely chance to reach this mark, in three games at Nationals.
Steuerwald was named to the 2nd Team All had a breakout year for Maranatha, and posted nearly 10 points per game, and was the sixth-leading rebounder, in grabbing 8.2 boards a game. Steuerwald had perhaps her best game in the Midwest Region Championship against Grace, totaling 15 points, and 13 rebounds, while dishing out three assists, and four steals.
Schultz, who received Honorable Mention, was a marksman from three-point range, shooting 34% from beyond the arc, while averaging 9.7 points per game. Schultz also chipped in defensively, grabbing 5.4 rebounds a game.
The Crusaders are in Joplin, MO, for the opening of the NCCAA DII National Championship Tournament, with a match against the #2 seed, Ohio Christian University, at 6:00 pm.
The AD3I consists of seven Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition. The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis.
