WILLIAMSBURG, Kent. – The University of the Cumberlands’ offensive explosion defeated the men’s baseball team, 19-0 in seven innings, on Thursday afternoon in a single, nine-inning scheduled game.
Maranatha held Cumberlands to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second, but the home team opened up a five-run third and added eight more in the fourth en route to 17 hits and nine stolen bases.
The Crusaders did produce seven hits in 27 at bats, with senior Garett Ordway (Pensacola, Fla.) going 2-4 and freshman outfielder Jacob Bauer (Milwaukee, Wis.) finishing 2-3.
Ordway, reached second base in the first inning, but was thrown out to end the inning, and Bauer was stranded at second base in the second inning.
Senior pitcher Tim Shelp (Independence, Mo.) dropped to 1-1 after defeating Lincoln Christian on Saturday to open the trip. Shelp allowed three runs in two innings while freshman Cody Borland (Oakley, Ca.) and Ordway pitched four innings in relief.
The baseball team finished the week with a 2-3 mark, faces their next opponent, Finlandia at home on Thursday, March 28 at 3:00 p.m.
