Dulek’s Pitching Stymies Crusaders

WATERTOWN, Wis. – The Maranatha Crusaders lost to Alverno at the hands of pitcher Erin Dulek, 11-0 and 4-2 on Friday afternoon.

In game one, Dulek held Maranatha to three hits, while Alverno posted four-run innings in the second and fourth.

Freshman pitcher Jana Dempsey (2-9) pitched six innings, allowing 10 hits and six earned runs while striking out two.

Junior catcher Sadie Joutras (Crest Hill, Ill.) continued her strong hitting, going 2-2 from the plate. Joutras has hits in all but two games this season.

Dulek pitched game two as well and came away the victor after holding Maranatha to two runs on six hits.

The victory didn’t come easy as sophomore pitcher Rachel Ryan’s RBI single gave Maranatha a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

On the mound, Ryan helped keep the lead 2-1 through four innings before the Inferno tied the game in the fifth and eventually went on to win 4-2 in the seventh.

Ryan finished the day 2-3 from the plate and pitched seven innings, allowing four earned runs and striking out three.

The Softball team moves on to face Dominican on Saturday, April 14 at 12:00 p.m.
