WATERTOWN, Wis. – The Benedictine Eagles proved their #2 status in the conference with a 3-0 sweep over the Crusaders on Saturday morning.
In set one, Maranatha trailed Benedictine and could never close the gap, losing 25-17, but jumped out to an early 7-4 lead in the second set.
The Eagles tied it at seven and later at 15 before going on a 10-1 run to end with a 25-16 score. Set three remained close through the first 10 points, but the Eagles pulled away late for the 25-17 win.
The match was competitive throughout, with each team recording long volleys, much to the delight of the parents of the Crusaders volleyball players, who were honored between sets two and three.
Senior hitter Torey DeLozier (Watertown, Wis.) and junior middle blocker Laci Peterson (Chillicothe, Ill.) each had 10 kills.
The team dropped to fifth in the NAC standings with the loss and look ahead to a match against MSOE in Milwaukee, on Tuesday, October 16 at 7:00 p.m.
