WATERTOWN, Wis. – The Falcons of Concordia Wisconsin eked out a 4-0 game one win and handily defeated Maranatha 9-1 in game two of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
It was a pitcher’s duel in the first game as junior pitcher Joel Borchardt (Watertown, Wis.) held the Falcons scoreless through six innings.
Despite the standout performance by Borchardt, the Crusaders were unable to put any runs on the scoreboard.
The Crusaders only had four hits in the game as junior infielder Jason Garrison (Watertown, Wis.) went 1-4.
Borchardt (1-3) pitched nine innings, allowing only four hits and striking out eight for the loss.
The Crusaders had no answer for a Falcon offense in game two that had 14 hits and 14 runs in the game compared to Maranatha’s seven.
Maranatha’s lone run came in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly RBI by sophomore Tim Shelp (Independence, Mo.).
Sophomore pitcher Jeremy Mattson (Ashwaubenon, Wis.) pitched three innings for the loss, allowing six hits and five earned runs.
Mattson also went 2-4 in the game.
The Crusaders face Rockford College at home on Friday, April 20 at 3:00 p.m.
