MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin Falcons swept past the Maranatha Crusaders with wins of 10-0, and 14-1 on Monday evening after the game was moved to Mequon, Wis. due to unplayable field conditions in Watertown.
The ‘Saders were held to two hits over five innings while the Falcons scored four runs in the second inning and three runs in the third.
Concordia finished with 10 hits in the game while freshman pitcher Hannah Clement (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) pitched five innings with a strikeout and just one walked batter.
In the third inning, junior shortstop Rosa Lewis (Yates City, Ill.) reached first on a walk, then advanced as far as third on a groundout before ending the inning.
After a scoreless first inning in game two, Concordia jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second, and tacked on five more runs before Maranatha added a run in the bottom of the fourth.
Two straight singles by sophomore Emily Thompson (Watertown, Wis.), and Clement, setup freshman Hannah Flatt’s (Janesville, Wis.) single RBI that drove in Thompson.
Four Crusaders had a hit apiece while sophomore pitcher Jana Dempsey (Bath, Mich.) pitched five innings, striking out two on 12 hits.
Maranatha moves on to face Edgewood College at 2:00 p.m. in Verona, Wis. on Tuesday, April 16.
