WATERTOWN, WI – The women’s basketball team were down as much as 20 points in a game against Grace Bible on Saturday afternoon, but rallied their way back to within four points, before succumbing on free throw shots.

Grace grabbed a 13-8 lead in the early goings of the game, then increased it to a 12-point margin on a free throw. The Tigers continued their attack, getting the lead to as much as 17 points and going into the halftime break with a 41-28 lead, thanks to a 10-2 edge on paint points, and 15 points off Maranatha turnovers.

The second half clearly started off in favor of a Grace team that shot 66% from the field, and dominated the boards, at 52-30, and raced out to a 20-point lead on a layup, at the 12-minute mark.

But the visiting team was drawn into a lull over the next eight minutes, as senior center Laci Peterson (Chillicothe, IL) hit a clutch layup, and senior guard Allison Schultz (Chillicothe, IL) sank a pair of free throws, and suddenly, the Crusaders were down just nine points.

Peterson’s presence on the board was a key factor in the game, as she finished with an astounding, 21 rebounds, and amassed 27 points, and eight blocks.

Freshman guard Julie Roer (Marinette, WI) cut Grace’s lead down to five on a nice layup, but less than 30 seconds later, Grace had built up a nine-point lead with 1:07 remaining. Schultz came up big again, hitting another pair of free throws from the charity stripe, and with 25 seconds remaining, Peterson hit a big layup, for their smallest deficit, 80-76, since the first half.

Maranatha’s impressive run would come to a close though, as the Tiger’s escaped on free throws, despite an effort that saw Maranatha hold a 12-2 advantage on second-chance points.

Schultz also finished with a spectacular game, at 25 points, and 10 rebounds, while freshman guard Courtney Dunn (Oshkosh, WI) posted nine points and six assists.

Maranatha takes to the court against Mount Mary, on Thursday, February 20, at 6:00 p.m., in Milwaukee, WI.
