MILWAUKEE, WI – The Alverno Inferno powered their way past the Maranatha Baptist University Softball team, combining for 35 hits in two games, winning 26-0 in game one, and 24-0 in game two.
Alverno did most of their damage in the first two innings, scoring seven runs in the first and 15 runs in the second, and limiting Maranatha to three base hits.
Sophomore shortstop Emily Boogher (York, PA) had two of the team’s hits, and added to an already impressive .714 batting average coming into the game.
Junior center fielder Emily Thompson (Watertown, WI) went 1-2 from the plate while senior pitcher Rosa Lewis (Yates City, IL) took the loss, pitching four innings while striking out two, with five earned runs.
The Crusaders left two on in the first inning of game two, after Boogher singled to the left side, and freshman designated hitter Randi Jaqua (South Bend, IN) advanced to second on a walk, as Alverno followed up with five runs off four hits in the bottom of the first, followed up by a 12-run fourth inning.
Maranatha could not overcome a number of errors, and sophomore pitcher Sam Swiatek (Walled Lake, MI) pitched four innings, striking out one for the loss.
Swiatek came close to scoring in the top of the second inning, but was thrown out at the plate on a fielder’s choice. The second-year player finished 1-2 from the plate, while three other players had a hit apiece.
The Crusaders travel to Milwaukee, WI, on Wednesday, to face the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors, at 1:00 p.m.
