GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Senior forward Joel Borchardt’s 27 points and 11 rebounds were not enough to overcome Kuyper College on Saturday afternoon, as the team fell 79-72.
Maranatha also received 22 points and 12 rebounds from sophomore center Brett Cashner (Urbana, Ill.).
After shooting 33% from the field in the first half, the Crusaders shot 48% in the second half, but Kuyper held a decisive advantage at the free-throw line, making 28 trips, while making 21.
Kuyper also had 18 points compared to Maranatha’s nine from points off turnovers, and also shot 47% from 3-point range, including 54% in the first half.
Maranatha did hold a 48-37 advantage on rebounds, but could not avoid their second loss of the season.
The team moves on to face MSOE on Tuesday, November 27 at 7:00 p.m.
