GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The men’s basketball run through the Midwest Region Tournament ended on Friday evening, with an 81-64 loss at the hands of #1 Northland International.
The game started with a 9-0 run by Maranatha, but the team found itself in a 12-point deficit at halftime and the Pioneers took control of the game behind 29 points from Pioneer player, Micah Bainers and 14 points from Anthony Lewis.
In the last game of their careers, Joel Borchardt had 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Matthew McGivern (Milwaukee, Wis.) finished with 14 points and seven assists.
The team shot just 30% in the first half but improved in the second with a 41% average from three-point range thanks in large part to McGivern’s four big three’s.
Northland hit 15 of their 29 shots in the second half for a 51% average from the field and went 15-18 from the free-throw line. The Pioneers also held the rebounding edge at 41-36 and will face #3 Kuyper College in the championship game at 3:00 p.m. EST.
