WAUWATOSA, Wis. – Junior outfielder Autumn Peotter’s hitting nearly pulled off a win in game two, as the Crusaders fell 6-1 and 14-13 on Monday evening to the Mount Mary Blue Angels.
Peotter had two home runs, both in the park and finished 7-9 with 4 RBI’s in both games. Her first homer came in the fifth inning to give the Crusaders their lone run.
Junior catcher Sadie Joutras (Crest Hill, Ill.) went 1-3 from the plate while pitcher Jana Dempsey pitched six innings, allowing 10 hits and six earned runs for the loss.
Maranatha carried an 8-3 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning, but the Blue Angels hauled off seven runs on eight hits to claim their first lead of the game.
Peotter and Torey DeLozier (Watertown, Wis.) each singled as Maranatha reclaimed a 13-12 lead after both teams took turns exchanging leads.
After Rachel Ryan (Nampa, Idaho) struck out the first batter in the bottom of the seventh, the Blue Angles struck back with four straight singles and two runs to end the game.
Ryan pitched 6.1 innings, allowing 14 earned runs, striking out four for the loss.
As a team, Maranatha had 18 hits compared to Mount Mary’s 19, and neither team finished with errors.
Susie Prusak (Leesburg, Va.) had a perfect game at the plate, going 4-4 with an RBI, while Joutras finished 3-5 with two RBI’s.
The Crusaders face Rockford at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 27 in Watertown.
