NIU_38-Peterson-2DUNBAR, Wis. – The Northland Pioneers showed resolve in the first half, but senior center Laci Peterson (Chillicothe, Ill.) and the Crusaders exerted their will in a 79-54 win on Thursday evening.

Peterson finished with 24 points, 13 rebounds in a game which started with a 5-0 lead from a scrappy Pioneer team. Northland kept pace with Maranatha for most of the first half, forcing a turnover at one point into a transition basket and a 26-25 deficit.

Maranatha responded though with a 16-0 run before entering the half ahead 42-31.

Senior guards Autumn Peotter (Waupaca, Wis.), who went 4-4 in the first, and Hallie Sheley (Rockford, Wis.) made the game a 17-point lead, and the Crusaders methodically wore down their opponent with their shooting en route to their 18th win of the season.

Sheley and Peotter finished the game with 15 and 14 points respectively.

Maranatha moves on for a Northern Athletics Conference matchup on Saturday against Concordia Chicago at 7:00 p.m. In a previous game this season, the Crusaders had a solid performance in a 61-54 win over the Cougars and look to advance to the semifinals next week.
