WATERTOWN, WI – Maranatha student-athletes Natascha Vinz, and Laci Peterson were recently awarded by the AD3I and NCCAAII with student-athlete weekly honors for competitions held during the week of October 28-November 2.
Vinz, a freshman forward for the women’s soccer team, was selected as the NCCAA DII Women’s Soccer Student-Athlete of the Week after thrusting her team back to the NCCAA DII National Championship Tournament stage.
She scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Grace Bible College in the Midwest Region Championship on Saturday, delivering the game-winner, a 15-yard shot, at the 50th minute, on a pass from sophomore midfielder Harmony Lorch (Aurora, CO), her 17th of the season. Vinz is currently eighth in Division II in goals per game with 1.07.
Peterson, a senior middle blocker on the volleyball team, has been selected as the Association of Division III Independents women’s volleyball Player of the Week as well as the NCCAA DII Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Week. Peterson led the Crusaders to a 2-1 week as she compiled 54 kills on an impressive .365 hitting percentage while also piling up 25 digs and four blocks.
Peterson’s week was highlighted by a double-double performance against Moody Bible Institute, in the Midwest Regional Tournament, finishing the match with 21 kills and 15 digs.
Peterson is second in the NCCAA Division II in kills per set (4.27) and ninth in attack percentage (.348).
