JANESVILLE, WI – The Maranatha Baptist University women’s basketball team traveled to UW-Rock County on Saturday to play a game which does not count toward overall season statistics, and picked up their fifth win of season, by a score of 56-50 thanks to another dominant performance by senior center Laci Peterson (Chillicothe, IL). Because UW-Rock County is merely a 2-yr. junior college, the game will not be added to any season totals.
Peterson led all Crusaders in scoring, posting 22 points on 8-13 (62%) shooting from the field, while grabbing 16 rebounds, and swatting away 10 blocked shots in 35 minutes of action. For Peterson, it was her second triple-double of the season, after a 12-point, 12-block, and 11-rebound performance against Northland College, on Saturday, December 14.
Maranatha held a slim, 27-23 margin at halftime and despite a surge by the Rattler’s in the second period, held on for the win.
As a team, Maranatha shot 38% from the field while holding the Rattler’s to 27% from the field, and 2-14 (14%) from three-point range. Maranatha also made it to the free-throw line 23 times, compared to Rock County’s 15 appearances, and converted 14 of their attempts.
Sophomore forward Stacy Reinke (Clintonville, WI) posted 11 points and seven rebounds, going 3-4 from the line while senior forward Erin Steuerwald (Whitewater, WI) chipped in nine points, eight rebouds and three assists in 32 minutes.
Maranatha resumes play on Thursday, January 9 against Ohio Christian University, at the OCU Tournament. Game time is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST).
