WATERTOWN, WI – The women’s basketball never allowed a lead greater than 10 in the first half, against the MSOE Raiders, but were handed their sixth defeat of the season, as the visiting team defeated Maranatha 58-42, on Thursday evening.

Maranatha trailed 8-4 at the 15 minute-mark in the first period, but would cut the lead to 11-8 on a jumper by freshman guard Courtney Dunn (Oshkosh, WI), three minutes later.

The Raiders hit their largest lead in the first half, eight points, on a free throw shot by senior guard Courtney Leaf (Andover, MN). But several possessions later, senior center Laci Peterson (Chillicothe, IL) was fouled, and converted both shots while senior guard Allison Schulz (Whitewater, WI) hit a timely three, to chop the lead back to two, at 16-14.

MSOE held no greater than a five-point lead for the remainder of the first period, and with the clock winding down, Schulz buried a jumper to even the game at 27 apiece. MSOE also followed up with a clutch shot before the buzzer sounded, to lead 29-27 going into halftime.

Peterson wasted little time out of the break, scoring on a jumper and an and-one to snag a 30-29 lead, but shortly after, MSOE hit a jumper, and in the following minutes, built up a nine-point lead that forced a Maranatha timeout.

Maranatha cut the lead back to seven, twice, before the Raiders pulled away to earn their sixth win of the season for a 6-4 overall record.

Peterson scored 16 points, and grabbed four rebounds while blocking six shots. Sophomore forward Stacy Reinke (Clintonville, WI) posted nine points and eight rebounds in 36 minutes of action.

Maranatha will face Bethany Lutheran, from Mankato, MN, on Friday night, at 5:00 p.m.
