FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Crusaders were swept by the Marian Sabres, 15-5 in seven innings in game one and 8-2 in game two on Friday evening.

Maranatha jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first off a sacrifice RBI by Tim Shelp, but were victims of an eight-run inning at the hands of the Sabres.

The Crusaders would later score two runs in the sixth off a double by Stephen Bishop (Hampton, Va.) that drove in both runs.

The scoring came too late as Maranatha struggled to put runners across the plate, stranding seven runners on base.

The Crusaders outhit Marian 11-10 and had five players with at least two hits.

Sophomore first baseman Chris Von Holt (Stony Point, N.Y.) went 3-4 while infielders Jason Garrison (Watertown, Wis.) and Garett Ordway (Pensacola, Fla.) went 2-4 and 2-3 respectively.

Sophomore pitcher Tim Shelp pitched 2.4 innings for the loss, allowing five hits and 10 earned runs.

Marian scored first in the second game but junior outfielder Nathan Lyle (Oregon, Wis.) singled to drive in two runs, evening the game at 2-2.

The next two at-bats for Marian broke the tie and sealed the win for the Sabres, who score three runs in the fourth and two runs in the fifth.

Junior pitcher Craig Lawson (Independence, Mo.) pitched eight innings, allowing 12 hits and seven earned runs for the loss.

Lyle finished a solid day at the plate, going 2-4 while Shelp also went 2-4.

Maranatha faces Dominican on Saturday, April 14 at 12:00 p.m. at Washington Park in Watertown.
