Softball Drops Two Against Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. – Maranatha’s softball team, playing in its first of three doubleheaders in the next two days, was defeated 8-0 in both games against the Rockford Regents on Friday afternoon.

Maranatha’s busy schedule includes doubleheaders on Saturday against Concordia Chicago at noon, followed by games against Dominican at 5:30 and 7:00 p.m.

Against Rockford, the Crusaders were held to two hits in each game while the Regents put together two and four-run innings in the first and second respectively of game one.

Freshman pitcher Hannah Clement (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) pitched four innings, allowing eight runs, five unearned while striking out two batters.

Senior Autumn Peotter (Waupaca, Wis.) and sophomore Jana Dempsey (Bath, Mich.) each went 1-2 from the plate with Dempsey reaching second base in the second inning before the inning concluded with a popup.

In game two, Maranatha senior Rosa Lewis (Yates City, Ill.) singled, then advanced to second on a fielder’s choice to Clement. Lewis would stay put though as the inning ended with consecutive outs.

Dempsey took the loss, allowing eight runs, five unearned and along with Lewis, went 1-2 from the plate.
