MILWAUKEE, WI – The softball team tallied 11 runs in a doubleheader loss to Mount Mary on Saturday, holding the Blue Angels to a two-run lead in the first game, before succumbing 13-5, and falling victim to an 11-run outburst by Mount Mary in a 15-6 game two loss.
The Crusaders (1-10) produced five runs off four hits in the first game, and after Mount Mary finished the second inning with four runs, Maranatha bounced back with a two-run inning of their own, in the top of the third, beginning with a single by sophomore outfielder Heather White (Watertown, WI).
White eventually scored on an error by the catcher, and junior outfielder Emily Thompson (Watertown, WI) also crossed home plate on a walk to Emily Boogher (York, PA).
Mount Mary went scoreless in the third, but posted five more runs in the fourth, before Boogher’s single RBI drove in White, as the team finished the inning with a 10-5 deficit.
Mount Mary ended the game in the fifth with a home run that drove in two runs, and sophomore pitcher Sam Swiatek pitched 4.1 innings in the loss, allowing seven hits.
White finished the game a perfect 2-2 from the plate.
Thompson opened game two with a single to third base, and eventually scored on another RBI by Boogher, that led to a 3-0 Maranatha lead, but the Blue Angels accumulated 11 runs in the bottom of the first, on seven hits.
Maranatha matched Mount Mary in hits (10), but despite another two runs in the second, could not catch up in the final three innings.
Boogher was 3-3 with two RBI’s, and both Grace VanDeLinde (Milanville, PA), and Amy Dineen (Great Valley, N.Y.) went 2-3.
The two teams will meet again next Saturday, April 12, in Watertown, at 12:00 p.m.
