WATERTOWN, Wis. – The softball team faced North Central for the third and fourth times this season, losing 5-4 in game one and winning 10-2 in game two. The two teams previously split the season opener at North Central.
The Crusaders started fast, putting four runs past NCU in the bottom of the first inning. Junior Autumn Peotter’s single ignited an attack that saw four Crusaders tally hits.
Freshman pitcher Jana Dempsey (Bath, Mich.) held the Rams to two runs through five innings before a three-run sixth inning put North Central up 5-4.
The Ram’s lead held for the win, dropping Dempsey’s record to 2-5 on the season. Dempsey pitched seven innings, allowing five hits, five runs, while striking out four batters.
Junior catcher Sadie Joutras (Crest Hill, Ill.) was 2-3 with an RBI.
Game two followed a different storyline as Maranatha scored seven runs off five hits in the fourth inning to put North Central away for good.
Sophomore pitcher Rachel Ryan (Nampa, Idaho) drove in three runs with her bases-loaded double, but was caught trying to advance to third.
Ryan advanced to 4-2 with her five-inning, four hit, five strikeout and one earned run performance. She also finished 2-3 from the plate with three RBI’s.
Dempsey also went 2-3, while junior Susie Prusak (Leesburg, Va.) was 1-2 with three RBI’s.
The softball team will battle Lakeland College on Thursday, April 5 at 3:00 p.m. for a doubleheader in Sheboygan, Wis.
