MILWAUKEE, WI – The baseball team returned to the field on Saturday, and took a pair of losses to the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors, who won 12-2 in game one, and 11-1 in game two.
Maranatha jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, courtesy of a single RBI by freshman outfielder Micah Burdett (Newnan, GA), that drove in senior Galen Balinski (Mountainhome, PA), as the team notched two hits.
The Warriors responded though with four runs in the first to claim their first lead, and would score a run in the following two innings, as junior pitcher Caleb Rost (Greenville, S.C.) held the opponent to eight hits, in five complete innings on the mound.
Maranatha added another run in the fourth, when Rost scored on a passed ball, and finished the game with Burdett, and Cody Borland (Oakley, CA), finishing 2-4 at the plate.
Wisconsin Lutheran seized the first lead in game two, but held just a 2-0 edge through four innings, as Borland held the Warriors to just five hits in 4.1 innings, striking out three.
In the fifth inning, Wisconsin Lutheran broke loose, scoring seven runs off four hits, and two errors, before closing out the game with a run apiece, in the last two innings.
Freshman third baseman Adam Courtney (Guthrie Center, IA) posted a 1-3 performance from the plate, while sophomore shortstop Tim Rogers (Willmar, MN) went 1-2 with an RBI.
Maranatha travels to Rockford, IL, on Tuesday, April 8, to face the Rockford Regents, at 4:00 p.m.
