WATERTOWN, WI – The women’s soccer team opened regular season play on Friday afternoon, falling prey to the Ripon Red Hawks, 2-0 on a clear and hot day.
Ripon (2-1), notched the team’s first goal at the 9:38 mark in the first period from Brandi Peltier, and goalkeeper Michala Marino (Grand Blanc, MI) had her hands full, making five saves in the next nine minutes.
Marino had a solid game in net with eight saves, seven coming in the first period. Ripon still posted 20 shots, but Maranatha’s defense would not allow another goal until the clincher, at 75:10.
Maranatha spread out six shots among as many players, with four different people posting a shot on goal, including sophomore transfer Emily Hinsenkamp (Harrison TWP, MI) and Natascha Vinz (Cheboygan, MI), who posted their first shots as a Crusader.
