CHICAGO, IL – The Scarlet Hawks of Illinois Institute of Technology improved to 3-0 against Maranatha’s baseball squad on Friday afternoon, spreading out 11 runs over nine innings, in an 11-1 victory.
The Hawks led 6-0 entering the sixth inning, and held Maranatha to two hits in that span, while scoring two runs in every inning except the sixth.
Junior outfielder Cody Borland (Oakley, CA) singled to center field, and sophomore shortstop Tim Rogers (Willmar, MN) followed up with a single to left field, putting Borland at second base.
Freshman Micah Burdett (Newnan, GA) doubled in the next at-bat, driving in Borland, for his team-leading, 14th RBI of the season, and Maranatha trailed 6-1 entering the seventh.
IIT’s Michael Malfeo homered in the first at-bat of the inning, and the Hawks finished out the game with four runs off five hits while holding Maranatha to six hits in the game.
Rogers, outfielder Caleb Rost (Greenville, S.C.) and catcher Jacob Vossen (Port Clinton, OH) each went 1-3 at the plate, and Burdett pitched 7.1 innings in the loss, while striking out a batter.
The baseball team faces IIT again on Saturday, at 1:00 p.m., at U.S. Cellular Field, home of the Chicago White Sox.
