MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Maranatha recovered from a setback in set two to defeat the Alverno Inferno 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Maranatha never trailed in set one, as senior hitter Torey DeLozier’s nine kills paced the team to a 25-20 win.
In the second set, Maranatha had a 17-14 lead, but several aces and an error led Alverno to a 17-17 tie. The Inferno fell behind by two, but used a 7-1 run to hand Maranatha a 25-21 loss.
Maranatha rebounded in set three, winning 25-15, and in set four Maranatha jumped out to an early 10-3 lead, but not before a 5-3 run drew the Inferno to four points. Alverno never came closer than that, succumbing to the Crusaders, 25-19.
DeLozier finished with a game-high 26 kills, while sophomore setter Emily Thompson (Watertown, Wis.) had 19 assists, and senior libero Hallie Sheley (Watertown, Wis.) recorded 16 digs.
The Crusaders travel to Fond du lac, Wis. on Tuesday, October 23 to face Marian University at 7:00 p.m.
