Crusaders Roll With Second Win Over Pioneers

Box Score

WATERTOWN, Wis. – From the opening tip-off to the final whistle, Maranatha forced its will on the Pioneers for a …win on Friday night.

Second chance points and clear lanes to the basket were the major reason for a 17-2 Crusader lead.

The Crusaders weaved their way through the Pioneer defense, relying often on junior forward Torey DeLozier (Watertown, Wis.) and sophomore center Laci Peterson (Chillicothe, Ill.).

DeLozier and Peterson pounded the paint, each scoring 16 apiece, with Peterson tallying 12 rebounds and DeLozier, six.

The Crusaders 34-11 halftime lead built into as many as 34 points in the second half, playing stingy defense on Northland.

One player they could not contain in the second half was guard Kate Matthai, who score all of her 20 points in the second half.

Ultimately, Matthai’s efforts could not make up for Northland’s shooting woes, who finished the night 29% from the field.

Maranatha moves on to face the winner of Grace Bible and Moody Bible, who play at 8:00 p.m. on Friday night. The championship will take place Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
