Crusaders Sweep Emmaus At GBC Classic

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Maranatha rolled through another opponent, winning their seventh match out of their last eight, at the Grace Bible College Classic with a 3-0 sweep against Emmaus on Friday evening, by scores of 25-13, 25-10 and 25-15.

Maranatha needed little in order to defeat the Eagles, as senior middle blocker Laci Peterson, junior opposite hitter Stacie Ross (Wyoming, MI) and freshman Alison Renz (Lake Mills, WI) each notched seven kills apiece out of 32 total for the team. Junior setter Emily Thompson (Watertown, WI) posted 16 assists and also chipped in seven digs.

It was the team’s defense that played a crucial role in the win though, with 20 total blocks, spread out among nine different players.

Renz finished with four blocks total (two solo) while Peterson and senior middle blocker Lauren Schulz (Lake Mills, WI) each recorded three blocks apiece.

Sophomore libero Sam Swiatek (Walled Lake, MI) had 13 of the team’s 52 digs while sophomore hitter Kelli Fox (Matthews, N.C.) had six.

The Crusaders face the host team, Grace Bible, at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday followed by a 12:30 p.m. match against Ohio Christian.
