WATERTOWN, Wis. – Maranatha dominated Northland in their first match of the Regional Tournament, winning 3-0.
They used strategic hitting and effective defense in jumping out to a 10-4 lead. The defense held time and again, constantly rejecting Northland’s attack en route to a 25-15 win.
The second set continued the theme of smart hitting and defense before sophomore Laci Peterson (Chillicothe, Ill.) punched in the winning point of a 25-11 set two win.
Junior hitter Torey DeLozier (Watertown, Wis.) had to fight off a Pioneer attack late in the third set but clinched the match with a 25-20 win.
DeLozier finished with 19 kills and 12 digs while providing effective defense with six blocks (two solo). Laci Peterson was right behind her with 16 kills and three block assists.
Sophomore blocker Lauren Schulz (Lake Mills, Wis.) was particularly effective with five block assists.
In earlier action, Grace Bible was knocked out by Moody Bible. Northland faced Kuyper and defeated them 3-0 before falling to the Crusaders. The #2 seed, Lincoln Christian made quick work of Moody Bible in a 3-0 sweep.
That pits Maranatha and Lincoln in the Championship game tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. while Northland and Moody will vie for the third place game.
