WATERTOWN, Wis. – The Crusaders remained perfect, winning 3-0 against Concordia-Wisconsin in a well-contested match on Tuesday evening.
Errors forced the Crusaders into an early 14-9 deficit, but four kills by senior outside hitter Torey DeLozier (Watertown, Wis.) and a Falcon error evened the score at 14-14.
A tug of war ensued for the next few minutes as Maranatha tied the game on every point until falling behind 22-20.
Junior middle blocker Lauren Schulz (Lake Mills, Wis.) cut the deficit to 21-20 and DeLozier delivered the final two points for the 25-23 win.
In set two, Maranatha remained deadlocked through 16 before building an 18-16 cushion. The Falcons rallied to within one, but junior middle blocker Laci Peterson (Chillicothe, Ill.) and DeLozier delivered three kills for the 25-22 win.
The Crusaders found breathing room in set three with a 15-11 lead, but Concordia-Wisconsin cut the deficit to 21-20. Maranatha responded with aces from senior libero Hallie Sheley (Rockford, Ill.) and DeLozier to pull off a 25-21 victory.
DeLozier finished with 22 kills, six digs and two blocks while Peterson finished with 17 kills, and two block assists.
Sophomore setter Emily Thompson (Watertown, Wis.) racked up 27 assists.
Maranatha faces Moody Bible on Saturday, September 22 at 2:00 p.m. in Watertown.
